卡塔尔能源工业大臣阿提亚在参加多哈的一个天然气会议时宣称该国液化天然气产量将在2011年达到7700万吨，成为世界最大液化气生产国。现时卡塔尔的液化天然气主要向日本、韩国、西班牙和印度出口，2007年底卡塔尔还会开始向欧洲如英国、意大利、比利时、法国和荷兰等国家出口液化天然气。阿提亚同时还表示卡塔尔正在对其北部的一个巨大气田进行储量和开发潜能的研究报告，该报告预计在几年内完成。
